Our Float and Sink Experiment!

Kia ora everybody,

Today, Room 11 became a hub of scientific curiosity as we conducted the classic float and sink experiment! This engaging activity allowed us to explore the fascinating world of buoyancy and density.

  • We learned that an object’s density determines whether it will float or sink. If an object is less dense than water, it will float, and if it’s more dense, it will sink.
  • This experiment sparked interesting questions and discussions about real-world applications, such as ship design and ocean currents.
  •  Our float and sink experiment was a fun, interactive way to understand the concept of buoyancy and its importance in our everyday lives.

This hands-on activity ignited our curiosity and inspired us to continue exploring the wonders of science!

Baking Anzac Biscuits!

Kia ora everyone,

I hope you have all enjoyed first week of Term 2. In Room 11 we have been learning about Anzac Day. Yesterday, we baked Anzac biscuits. Students learnt about ingredients and steps of making Anzac biscuits through this practical experience. They also explored properties of different materials and how changes occur in their physical properties when mixed with other materials, heating and cooling. Here are some snapshots of our experience.

Ka Kite! Hear from you soon.

What is Real and What is Fake?

Kia ora everyone,

Today,  we learnt that images can be edited online to make people believe what cannot be true. We watched a video which was edited and was not true. We had a discussion about the video and then made a Google drawing to picture ourself  in a story which was never true.

Here are some pictures of Room 20 while making their drawings. I wonder what  digital skills other classes learning about?

Niuean- Savage Island Animation

Fakalofa lahi atu,

Today, Room 20 learnt that Niue is also known as Savage Island. We learnt the story behind the name Savage given to it. When captain Cook came to the island, it’s people thought that it might be a threat to our island and people because they never saw white human before. To protect themselves and their environment they chew on some leaves which made their mouth red and it appeared to be blood to captain cook. So, he refused to land on the island thinking that people here are savage i.e. they eat humans.

So, we decided to make an animation to depict this story. Here are some images of students of Room 20 creating their amazing animation.

Writing a letter to our buddies from Homai School

Malo e lelei,

Today, Room 20 had a great opportunity to connect with our buddy class from Homai School. We wrote letters to them about their blog posts and asked them some questions. It was an awesome opportunity for Room 20 to learn to write informal letters. Students loved to decorate their envelops before sending their letters to their buddies.

Waiting to hear from you soon through the letters.

Take care!
